QRYTEXT: When William Van Horn died in Greenwood County, KS in the 1920's he left no will, and his estate went to his surviving heirs. One of them was a nephew named Charles "Jack" Van Horn, who at the time was living in Cheyenne, WY. The story is that Jack followed to Wyoming and killed the man who murdered his younger brother, Frank, in Oklahoma City. As a result, Jack was convicted of homicide and had to spend a year in prison or jail. It was when the Wyoming governor died in office. Jack was one of the inmates who was entrusted to help clear out the governor's mansion of the governor's belongings to make room for the new governor. I would appreciate any evidence of Charles "Jack" Van Horn's incarceration and conviction during the early to mid-1920's. Thanks, Ed

QRYTEXT: My grandfather, Henry Cletus Kessler born 1867 in Iowa, his parents, Louis Kessler and Mary Ann Smith Kessler divorced when he was preschool age, and raised by his mother and maternal grandmother, Charity Clark Smith (her husband killed in Union Army battle at Vicksburg Civil War) buried Keokuk, Iowa. Henry's new stepfather, Henry Hewitt and family moved to Shelby, NEbraska. Young Henry did not get along well with his stepfather and during his teen years went to live with his mother's sister, his Aunt Roxy and Uncle Jim in WYO. I do not remember the last name or exactly where. But do know that the grandmother, Charity, died while visiting them in WYOand Henry's mother had her mother;s body shipped by train from Cheyenne to Nebraska for burial in 1903. Can anyone help? I am researching the names of FULLERTON, KIRKBRIDE, HARDING, KELLER, DAVIS, and CLEVENGER.  My family line came from Cheyenne and Indianhill, Wyoming.  It starts with Lenox FULLERTON and Nancy Jane (GROOM).  They homesteaded in Cheyenne and later their land was bought by Kenneth KIRKBRIDE (grandson) and is or was owned by the HARDING KIRKBRIDE Livestock Co.  Lenox's daughter, Sarah Jane married Otto HARDING and had three children, Afra "Peggy", Elvy, and Luther "BUCK".  Afra married Dan KIRKBRIDE and had one son named Kenneth.  The Hardings and the Kirkbrides went on to form the HARDING KIRKBRIDE livestock company.  Lenox's daughter, Alice May married Roy CLEVENGER and I believe they did have some children, such as Marion (male).  Lenox's daughter Maude Pearl married Sam DAVIS.  Maude was the postmaster for the INDIANHILL rural post office until 1943 when it closed and I think she died that year as well.  Mary Catheraine "Kate" I belive married Branch KELLER, a SCHOENING,  and later married Sanuel DOWNS in California.  I am not sure if it was her that married into the KELLER famiy but the children's names seem to match up.  They are Zan KELLER, Sue KELLER, Audra KELLER, and I think a few more.  I have heard from a letter written by Afra KIRKBRIDE, that in 1978 Branch KELLER was still living and moved to his son Oscar's ? in Colorado.  He would have been in his late 80's at the time.  Other children of the FULLERTON's were, Cora Ellen MCKIM, William Henry "Henry", Harrison Edgar, Minnie Omie "Omie", Francis Marion (Died young), Martha Ann (died young) and possibly Grace.  I would love to hook up, compare notes, and share my information.

About the turn of the century there was an incident in which young Willie NICKELL, son of Kels Patrick NICKELL, was shot from ambush and killed. Tom HORN was blamed for the incident and subsequently hanged for the offense. (Steve McQueen played the part of Tom Horn in the movie by the same name in the 50's or 60's.). I have a zerox copy of an article on the incident that was published in the In Wyoming magazine of Oct/Nov 1977. The photos are of typical 1977 quality and I would like to find some better ones for my NICKELL web page. Any ideas as to how to obtain some better photos? The magazine is no longer in print. My great-grandfather Gustav WILLMUNDER  married Magdalena (Lena) JEBSON 25 May, 1881, Laramie, Wyo Territory.  Both Gustav and Lena were 27 at the time. Lena was the widow of Thos. Jebson, and her maiden name was Magdalena THOMPSON.  A Henry THOMPSON was listed as a witness on the marriage certificate, and his residence is listed at Cheyenne.  Gustav and Lena are buried in Sacramento, CA

I am interested in getting a copy of an obituary for Mrs. Charles Beno.  The family information I have states that she died in childbirth in 1869, and the child was buried with her in Cheyenne.  The grave was never located and the cemetery was supposedly converted to a residential area. She was born Augusta Struch and was married to a Foltz prior to her marriage to Charles Beno around 1856. Charles Beno was on the Board of Trustees of the City of Cheyenne about 12/10/1869.  He ran Beno's Brewery and Saloon on 15th Street. I have his obituary from his death on June 15, 1875 and copies of his probate records from the WY state archives.  He is buried in Lakeview Cemetery. Please refer me to someone else if you are not able to help me track down Augusta's obituary.  I appreciate any help you can provide. Thompson, lived and worked on the Campstool Ranch- 1902-1907.  He worked with the Danks brothers and he personally took care of the rodeo horse, Midnight.  Any information about the ranch would be appreciated.  Specifically about the bunkhouse which is supposed to still exist with the names of the ranch hands from that time carved in the walls.
