- Has someone you know passed away and you are aware that they have scrapbooks, or newspaper clippings? If so, please let the family that we would appreciate the donation. Those who do not have the hobby of genealogy do not realize the importance of these items to a genealogist. - The Fall 2008 has been mailed. If you have not received yours please contact us. - We joke that a dedicated long time Ray County historian, who passed away suddenly years ago, keeps us busy. It is amazing how much information has been "dropped in our laps," which has been and will continue to be placed in our quarterly. - Projects in the works are: Riffe Cemetery, a cemetery in Orrick Twp, that the transcription we have in our Genealogical Library did not contain several burials. You may find the updated transcription online. It is still not up to date, but several names have been added. - We have several photographs that are being scanned and placed online. It is a slow process, but keep checking back for updates. Photograph's - You will not be disappointed with our extensive genealogical library and a tour of the museum. We are very proud of the many treasures, both informational, concerning Ray County People and the artifacts in the museum. We strongly recommend a visit to this historic building, which was constructed as the County Poor House in 1910. Later it became a nursing home and in the early 1970's, the county allowed the Ray County Hi storical Society to display donated items. The Ray County Museum is owned by Ray County, which funds several of the expenses for the building. The displays of each "theme" room, with artifacts pertaining to the history of Ray County, the United States, and ancestral artifacts of those who came before us to this county are worth the time to view. - Have you have had any luck in finding information on your ancestor / ancestors in Ray County? We would love to hear about it. Email us at morcga@yahoo.com - Do you have a family web site with connections to Ray County? If you would like for me to put a link on our web site to yours please email me. - The Excelsior Springs Museum and Archives has many events in the works also. Please check their web site. We would like to thank any and all volunteers for the Ray County Genealogical Association and those of the Ray County H istorical Society. Those who volunteer are extremely appreciated for giving of their time freely because they love what they are doing and care about Ray County history and the people who shaped our county. We also wish to thank all of those who volunteered in the past. All who no longer are able to volunteer or have passed away. Without their time, which many have given freely, we would not be what we are today and we hope that we are able to follow in their footsteps to continue. If you are thinking about volunteering please contact us for more information. Lisa |
